It means pacification or palliative approach of treatment. It is intended to correction of disequilibrium of body constituents (dosha, dhatu, mala) without expelling them out. It is different than purification therapies (shodhana).

This is intended in the following conditions:

  • In weak patients
  • In mild conditions
  • In children, aged, pregnant and severely debilitated individuals when purification therapies are contraindicated
