Arunadatta commenting on above verse, told that ''svayameva'' means, without stimulation by ''phalavarti'' etc. If by stimulus i.e. ''phalavarti, tīkshņa virechana'' etc. are used, then subsequent ''basti'' should not be given. ''Vaidya'' Kasture referring to the Sushruta’s view told that, one should not administer more than four ''basti'' in a day; otherwise it causes ''pakvashaya kshobha'' (irritation of colon).
