'Sattva' literally means essence. The term is widely used as synonym to mana (mind) and denotes mental strength. It indicates purity, clarity of mind of an individual. It is also one of the three fundamental guna responsible in the evolution process of the universe. Sattva is responsible for enlightenment of pure knowledge or truth.
