'Sattva' literally means essence. The term is widely used as synonym to [[mana]] (mind) and denotes mental strength. It indicates purity, clarity of mind of an individual. It is also one of the three fundamental [[guna]] responsible in the evolution process of the universe. Sattva is responsible for enlightenment of pure knowledge or truth.
